Offline-First Security Architecture

MaatSafe

Your Personal Data Vault. Zero Cloud dependencies. Absolute sovereignty over your secrets.
General Description

MaatSafe is a high-security, local-first database vault designed for users who prioritize total privacy and hardware-level isolation. Unlike conventional cloud managers, MaatSafe completely eliminates external server dependencies, remote telemetry, and third-party data storage.

Whether storing confidential credentials, private encryption keys, identity documentation, or encrypted personal media, MaatSafe isolates your vault directly within device storage using multi-layer cryptographic barriers.

Security Architecture & Encryption Model

MaatSafe employs an unyielding defense-in-depth model, ensuring that physical access without key authorization yields zero decipherable data.

1. At-Rest Encryption (AES-256-GCM)
All local SQL database files, blob storage items, and indexing tables are encrypted at rest using 256-bit AES algorithms.
2. Hardened Key Derivation
Master passwords undergo high-iteration memory-hard hashing to eliminate brute-force and GPU dictionary attack vectors.
3. No Hardware safed Encryption Keys
All used encryption keys are in the app only, not stored in any Hardware-Key-Storage. Session Data are in Memory only, no Cookies or saved on the Device.
4. Hardware Keystore Integration
Biometric credentials interact directly with OS TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) and Secure Enclave chips to unseal session keys safely.
5. Zero-Knowledge Network Protocol
Local P2P synchronization uses TLS-encrypted sockets with ephemeral key exchanges—ensuring eavesdroppers on the LAN see only encrypted binary blobs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if I lose my Master Password?
A: Because MaatSafe operates on a strict zero-knowledge architecture, no master reset key or remote backdoor exists. We strongly recommend exporting your offline emergency recovery key during initial set up.
Q: How does local synchronization function without cloud servers?
A: Devices on the same Wi-Fi/LAN discover each other securely via encrypted pairing handshake protocol. Vault data transfers directly between devices over local sockets using end-to-end encryption.
